Using a Power Inverter with Charger for Home UPS
I was looking at purchasing the Royal Power DC to AC 2000 watt power inverter with charger PIC-2000-12 to help power my sump pump in the event of a power outage. My sump pump is 1200 watts on 15 amp. I am using 2 60 amp hour marine cell batteries to help power the backup for the sump pump. Thanks Mickey.
I believe the PIC-2000 should work well with your pump. You might want to check with the maker of the pump to make sure the surge or peak wattage does not exceed the 2000 watts. If it does the 3000 watt Royal Power PIC-3000 would be perfect for you. These models are really the best choice your pump because of the 20 amp automatic transfer switch and built in battery charger will allow you to connect your pump to the system and not have to worry about power outages. The inverter will keep the batteries connected to the power inverter fully charged when you have utility power and when there is a loss of power the pump will remain on and run off the battery power. If you are using 2 60 amp hour batteries you should be able to drain your well many times. I could not estimate the amount of time the pump can run in hours, because the amount of times the well drains in a hour is based on the intensity of the rain or water load. I always suggest testing your system during a rain fall when you have power, by disconnecting the ac charger cord from the wall so the pump will only have DC battery power. This is the only real way to make sure that you will have the right battery bank setup in order to handle the power losses you sometimes have. You can calculate the run time of the batteries if you take the pump at continuous full draw of 1200 watts to 15 amps. Then each battery should last between 30-45 minutes at full load. Remember when dealing with a sump pump you can never afford to not have power, otherwise you could be dealing thousands of dollars in flood damage. By using the Royal Power inverter with built in battery charger and automatic transfer switch you can insure you will always have flowing AC current to keep your pump operating and basement dry and completely damage free.
