12 Volt and 24 Volt Battery Bank Setup
Hello, I need to know the appropriate size of battery bank to use with the 6000 watt 12 volt dc to ac power inverter. I have 6 deep cell and 5 auto batteries at the moment, also the size of wire from the batteries to the dc to ac power inverter and the battery to battery wire size. Thank you..
First of all when considering the size of the battery bank you need to consider the length of time you require to operate your machinery. The power inverter does have the ability to handle a 6000 watt load at a continuous rate, but that does mean you will use all 6000 watts at all times. So first calculate the average AC load you will be applying to the power inverter and then you can better estimate if the batteries you have can handle the load. As for cabling we always recommend a 0 gauge wire when dealing with loads of 6000 watts or 50 amps, this is a very high flow of current and you will experience poor functioning results from power invert is you do not have sufficient cables. For example you can even get regular fault notification from the power inverter even if the battery level are in the correct range of 10.5 volt to 15 volts if the wiring is insufficient.
When setting up the battery bank for your 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC power inverter you can usually expect to receive 60-90 minutes of run time per 1000 watts when using a 100 amp hour battery. Remember most electrical currents will fluctuate up and down so the only way to setup the perfect battery bank is through testing your exact system and monitoring the battery life and adding batteries as required. Some electronics like steady chargers or stable digital equipment will not fluctuate much and then it is much easier to know how many batteries you will need. When dealing with compressors or motors things begin to be a lot more difficult, because its very have to control the surge frequencies. usually the best batteries to use with a DC to AC power inverter will be high amp hour 6 volt batteries and configuring them in series and then parallel. They will be able to retain the charges longer and be recharged more times over their life span. Keep in mind that the right battery bank setup to make your experience of using power inverters a much more worry free and enjoyable.
